CCleaner uninstalled most of a user’s programs without permission [Updated]

CCleaner has experienced a couple problems around the decades since Avast obtained the common program cleansing plan from Piriform back again in 2017.

Challenges we’ve noted on in the past in this article incorporate buggy bundled software program, malware, pop-up ads, and unwelcome privacy improvements. Nowadays a user on Reddit stories that the instrument uninstalled most of his software program without the need of his information.

The whole submit from person rounakr94 states:

CCleaner 5.91 uninstalled most of my software when I taken off CCleaner from Packages and Functions in manage panel.

When uninstalling I saw in the development bar that some MSI, Steam and Origin information had been remaining eliminated and soon after it done I saw that Adobe reader, Afterburner, Aida64, Steam, Origin, Discord, HDsentinel and so on were corrupted (not uninstalled totally). I experienced to invest 2 additional hours to reinstall these and scan my Computer absolutely for any malware.

The scan finally came again thoroughly clean, and when somebody inquired wherever CCleaner was installed, rounakr94 replied that it was in the D:Applications folder and when uninstalled CCleaner taken out all other packages in that spot.

A dev on the Piriform Community forums responded to the scenario, stating:

That CCleaner should be taking away every thing from its installation listing is, under regular circumstances, accurately what you would want CCleaner to be doing. Not just the files from its initial set up manifest but any updates, log documents, etc so that it does not go away any traces of by itself driving.

While that is a truthful issue, rounakr94 isn’t persuaded by the logic, stating: “Now why tf will CCleaner remove something else that is not affiliated with them? Appears to be like a negative coding in the uninstaller or just revenge by the devs simply because you are uninstalling their software program.”

Update: The organization accepts that this difficulty can occur in very scarce conditions, and is taking measures to resolve it. Browse its response listed here.
